Program Description

As part of our extended media programming, Mono Space hosts intimate screenings of biopics, documentaries, and concert films that have shaped music culture. The audio is presented through the Ojas system, highlighting the importance of impactful sound design in cinema.

Mono Space’s inaugural screening will be Control, the 2007 feature film directorial debut of famed rock photographer Anton Corbijn, a biopic on post-punk legend Ian Curtis, filled with the sounds of his band Joy Division.

About Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn is a Dutch photographer, filmmaker, and video artist. He is best known for his iconic black and white portraits of music artists, including the very first press photos for Joy Division and subsequently New Order, who emerged in the wake of Ian Curtis’ untimely death.

Through the 1980s and early ‘90s, Corbijn would provide the definitive images—through photography, album packaging, and music videos—for young bands like U2, Depeche Mode, and R.E.M. as they moved from the cool margins to mainstream exposure. As a filmmaker, Corbijn has received critical acclaim for Control, 2010’s The American with George Clooney, and 2014’s A Most Wanted Man with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Corbijn has several books to his name with 1-2-3-4 (2015) being a must-have collection of his portraiture work capturing musicians, drawn from his 30 year career.
