Community Access

Program Description

Mono Space presents a Gallery Hours curated by backyardmango, featuring overlooked groups, albums, and rarities from Mexico. This Saturday listening experience explores the rich sounds of Cumbia, Latin Soul/Jazz, Funk Mexa, and more, with selections from across Mexico spanning the 1960s through the 1980s. Albums are chosen to highlight the evolving musical landscape across regions including Jalisco, Michoacán, Mexico City, Nuevo León, and beyond. Listeners will travel both geographically and sonically, tracing the connections between instrumentation, genre, and the cultural threads that link Mexico’s vibrant musical scene.

The Listening Experience

Gallery Hours are free and open to the public. Held on Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm, they offer an open way to experience Mono Space and the OJAS high fidelity sound system. Guests are welcome to arrive at any point to spend time with the system, browse the library and gift shop, grab some tea, and listen to a rotating selection of curated recordings, seated or moving through the space as they like. Gallery Hours are held as a quiet, shared listening environment. Details about visiting the space can be found in the FAQs.
