Mono Space presents Gallery Hours featuring albums from Ghostly International. Founded in Detroit in 1999, the label quickly became a force in contemporary electronic and experimental music, known for its distinctive blend of sound, design, and visual arts. This Saturday session draws from across its catalog, highlighting artists who move between ambient, electronic, and exploratory sounds.
About Ghostly International
“Ghostly International was founded in 1999 from an Ann Arbor, Michigan dorm, a quick ride to the Detroit raves and DJ gigs that shaped its infancy. The independent label has since grown from its DIY days — known for its early roster of experimental electronic artists such as Matthew Dear, Dabrye, and Tycho — into an internationally recognized cabal of visual artists, designers, and musicians, "transcending its record label roots to sell an ethos," says The New York Times.
Today, Ghostly functions at the joints of genre, from its expansive vision of avant-pop and indie rock to the label’s longrunning ambient series SMM and its dance imprint, Spectral Sound. The GI roster spans recent acclaimed releases from Mary Lattimore, Galcher Lustwerk, Kate Bollinger, Julie Byrne, Whatever The Weather, and more.
Spectral Sound has centered on the axis of dance music for 20+ years, welcoming breakthrough material from the likes of Avalon Emerson, Seth Troxler, and Hieroglyphic Being. Recent SPC debuts include dreamcastmoe, gum.mp3, and SUCHI.
In 2020, after over a decade of partnering with Secretly Distribution, Ghostly International joined as an affiliate label of Secretly Group, anchoring a new family of labels under the banner of All Flowers Group. Outside its Grammy-nominated record catalog, Ghostly has also collaborated with a range of beloved brands and archives over the years; partners include [adult swim], Warby Parker, Timex, The Estate of Arthur Russell, Carhartt Work in Progress, and Vans.”
The Listening Experience
Gallery Hours are free and open to the public. Held on Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm, they offer an open way to experience Mono Space and the OJAS high fidelity sound system. Guests are welcome to arrive at any point to spend time with the system, browse the library and gift shop, grab some tea, and listen to a rotating selection of curated recordings, seated or moving through the space as they like.
