Presenting a gallery hours focused on the recordings created and inspired by the community of musicians who shaped and lived inside the Laurel Canyon scene during late 1960's and early 1970's. Listeners will enjoy works by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Love, Sly & The Family Stone, The Pentangle, Carole King, and more. The selections will highlight the recordings associated with the canyon, examining sounds and songwriting processes, and touching on the social influences that defined the era.

 


About Nicole D'Amato

Nicole D'Amato is an on-air host at KMHD, a public and community radio enthusiast, and a self-proclaimed Joni Mitchell scholar. Nicole started her journey at KMHD as a volunteer and host of vocal jazz show, Songs From Cloud 9, in 2016. Since then the show has expanded to encompass a wide range of jazz sub-genres, with a continued focus on the station’s Jazz Without Boundaries format. Songs From Cloud 9 airs weekdays from 1-2pm and weekends from 12-2pm on KMHD 89.1FM in Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining KMHD, D’Amato read the news and hosted music shows at KTNA in Talkeetna, Alaska and KBUT in Crested Butte, Colorado. Across her radio career, a deep appreciation for music and the thoughtful sharing of recordings have remained central to her practice. 

The Listening Experience

Gallery Hours are free and open to the public. Held on Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm, they offer an open way to experience Mono Space and the OJAS high fidelity sound system. Guests are welcome to arrive at any point to spend time with the system, browse the library and gift shop, grab some tea, and listen to a rotating selection of curated recordings, seated or moving through the space as they like.
