To close out his residency at Mono Space, Marcus J. Moore presents a Gallery Hours featuring music that shaped his work as an author and music journalist. Within the intimate setting of the Listening Gallery and through the OJAS soundsystem, Moore will explore the intersections of genre, identity, and spirituality, sharing records that have informed his perspective on Black music’s cultural significance.

About Marcus J. Moore

Marcus J. Moore is an author and music journalist whose writing examines the emotional and political undercurrents of Black music. Moore’s work has appeared in The New York Times, NPR, The Nation, and The Atlantic, blending criticism with cultural history and close listening.

Moore also creates spaces for intentional listening and dialogue through public conversations, liner notes, and artist interviews. This practice is rooted in slowing down and treating music as a shared experience, hearing not only the sound, but the world that produced it.

The Listening Experience

Gallery Hours are free and open to the public. Held on Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm, they offer an open way to experience Mono Space and the OJAS high fidelity sound system. Guests are welcome to arrive at any point to spend time with the system, browse the library and gift shop, grab some tea, and listen to a rotating selection of curated recordings, seated or moving through the space as they like. Gallery Hours are held as a quiet, shared listening environment. Details about visiting the space can be found in the FAQs.
