I NEVER LOVED A MAN THE WAY I LOVE YOU, ARETHA FRANKLIN
Presented by Meg Samples

Recap

On November 6th, Mono Space continued its Fall ‘25 programming with an album listening session for Aretha Franklin’s I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You as presented by KMHD’s Meg Samples. The evening was documented by Kevin Horstmann and his photo story is featured here.

Many thanks to Meg Samples for guiding a capacity crowd through Aretha Franklin’s historic recording with such a rich contextualization and for sharing her love for the Queen of Soul’s music. (And thank you to Meg for arranging the Kentucky libations courtesy of Rabbit Hole Distillery.)

Thank you to Mark Carter-Piff for loaning the Mono Ortofon SPU cartridge for the session, which brought the original Atlantic Records mono pressing of the album to life in a very powerful, felt way.

And thank you to all the session’s participants for their attendance and for bringing a wonderful communal energy to the listening gallery.
