SELECTIONS NO. 3
Bijan Berahimi

Recap

Photography by Kevin Horstmann

On November 20th, the designer and curator Bijan Berahimi presented Selections No.3. Over the course of an hour and seven records, Bijan guided the listening gallery through key aspects of his personal and creative life with great care, humor, and generosity.

His soundtrack and stories took us into the history and culture of the Iranian diaspora, to a teen life in Los Angeles set to the music of Nas, to formative years at CalArts and the impact of studying under Brian Roettinger, to finding himself in dream collaborations with Toro Y Moi and Aminé, and finally to finding connection with his parents’ roots in pre-revolutionary Iran via a crucial reissue of recordings by psyche rock legend Kourosh Yaghmaei.

He also impressed on us the importance of the album as a physical cultural artifact and conveyed his profound love for working within that format as a contribution to a recording artist’s vision.

Thank you to Bijan for organizing and presenting such an incredible program. Thank you to all the participants for a fantastic evening of collective listening and positive communal energy.
